NOTE: The County Clerk cannot accept out of town checks. They only accept money orders and certified checks if you do not live in the county. BIRTHS: These begin in 1903, however there are some delayed records dating back into the 1800's--very few. Before 1940, the birth records of persons born inside the city limits of Paris, TX were kept by the City of Paris (See
City Clerk's Office for this information.) Birth records for persons born in Lamar County but NOT within in the city of Paris, TX are recorded at the office of Lamar County Clerk. THE BIRTH RECORDS ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR RESEARCH. You must be able to complete an application and send this application to this office along with a fee of $11.00 per request. An application must contain:
  1. The name of the person
  2. Date of birth
  3. Parents names
  4. The reason you are wanting the certificate.
DEATHS: The same applies for death records as for birth records; with the exception that the names of the parents of the deceased need not be listed to obtain a death certificate. Death records were not mandatory in the State of Texas until 1940 so there are many that are not recorded. THE DEATH RECORDS ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR RESEARCHING. An application must be submitted for a death certificate containing:
  1. The name of the deceased
  2. Date of death
  3. The reason you are wanting the certificate.
MARRIAGES: These begin in 1836 and are available to the public for researching. There are separate indexes listing the last name of the bride as well as a groom index. Copies are $8.00 each. We must have a date or approximate date to find a marriage license. Click here to request a look-up for marriages before 1890 from a volunteer. There are many of the original licenses in the office of the Lamar County Clerk and are available without charge. The research for these marriage licenses must be done by the researcher.

PROBATE AND WILLS: These begin in 1836 and are available to the public for researching. Copy fees are $1.00 per page whenever the researcher does the research and makes his own copies. If the Clerk's Office does the research and copying, there is a non-refundable research fee of $11.00 per name plus a copy fee of $1.00 per page. A $25.00 copy deposit is needed to begin research if the Clerk's Office does the research.

DEED AND LAND RECORDS: These begin in 1836 and are available to the public for researching. Copy fees are $1.00 per page whenever the researcher does the research and makes his own copies. If the Clerk's Office does the research and copying, a $25.00 copy deposit is needed to begin research.

BIRTH RECORDS ARE CONFIDENTIAL FOR 50 YEARS AND DEATH RECORDS FOR 25 YEARS; THEREFORE, ISSUANCE IS RESTRICTED TO A PROPERY QUALIFIED APPLICANT, AS DEFINED BELOW:

    • Sibling(s)
    • Spouse
    • Grandparent(s)
    • Legal guardian
    • Conservator
  3. Legal representative, personal representative, or agent of those in categories 1 and 2 above, but limited to:
    • Any individual, attorney, funeral director or other representative acting under contract for those in categories 1 and 2 above.
    • Any agent, genealogist, or other representative bearing an affidavit to make application on behalf of those in categories 1 and 2 above.
Forms of identification required: A handwritten request is acceptable with the following:
  1. Name of registrant
  2. Date of birth
  3. Sex
  4. Place of birth or death
  5. Parents names
  6. Relationship to registrant
  7. Purpose for obtaining record
  8. Photocopy of ID
  9. $11.00 money order or cashier check
BIRTHS: These are recorded for births INSIDE the city of Paris beginning in 1916. Birth records are available to a properly qualified applicant as defined above.

DEATHS: These are recorded for deaths INSIDE the city of Paris beginning in 1916. Death records are available to a properly qualified applicant as defined above.
