Skidmore Cemetery (#2), Lamar County, TX

Skidmore Cemetery #2 is believed to be about one mile south of Bethlehem Cemetery and could be in either Block 56 or 57 of the Lamar County Road Map produced by American Drafting and Services revised December 1993.

From the records of Elizabeth Booth: "There are six known graves at this site in the southeast quadrant of the county not specifically located but said to be on the Joseph Abraham Skidmore farm known as Skidmore's Prairie." The oldest burial is documented as being that of Joseph Franklin Skidmore who died 19 Sep 1836. At this time it is not known when Abraham Skidmore first obtained land as this burial date precedes much of the recorded history of the county.

Also found in the Daughters of the American Revolution Cemetery Collection complied in 1940, parts of which were donated by the Joseph Ligon Chapter of Paris and copied by Sallie Lee Lightfoot of Paris. The book was located in the Corsicana Genealogical Library,Corsicana, TX., and copied by Betsy Mills and Elizabeth House. The following was written, "Located on the farm of R. M. Robinson about 3 miles south of Biardstown, on what was then his home, are the graves of Abraham Skidmore and his wife Celia Thompson Skidmore. There are no inscriptions now, but a Bible record has been copied."
