Lamar County Genealogical Society 2009 Meetings

The society meets the second Tuesday of each month as indicated. We begin at 6:30 p.m. and meet in our library at the Santa Fe Train Depot located at 1125 Bonham St. in Paris. Programs are subject to change.

March 10th: We will have our own Lamar County Genealogy Society Library librarian/volunteer, Paris native and historical author, Skipper Steely, with a program on "Paris Lynchings". He has several books listed on our newly updated publishings we have in our library for purchase. If you purchase any of them, I am sure he will sign the inside cover.

April 14th: We will have John Sellers from Honey Grove, Tx., with a program on "Climbing Your Female Side of the Tree" for researching those elusive females that are still at home with parents, on the 1880 census, but disappear by 1900 census due to death, migration or marriage.

May 12th: Don McCaskill will bring our program. He is the president of the Valley of the Caddo Museum and Cultural Center, that is being built next to the Love Civic Center, here in Paris. His program will be on the museum/cultural center, what it will be like, floor plans for the building, etc, as well as info on the Caddo Indians.

We don't meet in June, July or August because people enjoy trips and family time.

September 8th: Program will be another Paris, Texas author John Fuston, telling us about his new book that was just published and now out in stores; "Journal From Station 2" It is a compilation of articles he has about Paris' Fire Station #2 between 1900 and 1956 and about his parents and the antique fire engine that he and his wife own. He will have some of his books there to sell for $15.00 and will more than happy to sign the inside front cover, for those that purchase one.

October 13th: Dee Welborn from Austin, Texas. Program will be helping law enforcement with "reverse genealogy" and Unclaimed Persons. The Unclaimed Persons group was on the first page of the San Diego Union Tribune. Her group was mentioned way down at the bottom of the article as "amateur" genealogists
